About Rarebird
For a century, coffee has offered two choices: regular or decaf. Rarebird is creating the third type of coffee: Px coffee. Coffee powered by paraxanthine (Px) that delivers the uplift people love without the jitters, anxiety, or sleep disruption of caffeine. Our mission is bold and simple: put Px coffee on the menu board of every cafe and coffee shop in the U.S. We’re already proving it’s possible and notable highlights include:
* Startup backed by Y Combinator, First Round Capital, AgFunder, and 43North.
* Px coffee was awarded Best New Product by the National Coffee Association in 2023
* The technology is backed by a $1.5MM+ grant from the National Science Foundation
* Our DTC launch demonstrated “when people switch to Px, they stay with Px coffee”.
Now, with the capability to manufacture green Px coffee beans, we’re opening new B2B channels to accelerate category creation at scale.
Position Overview
Rarebird is at a pivotal inflection point. After validating our Px coffee through a successful direct-to-consumer launch, we’re now shifting focus to B2B to take this category-defining innovation mainstream as the third option alongside regular and decaf. We’re hiring a Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) to lead this charge, owning our channel strategy and go-to-market development as we prove B2B product-market fit and build a repeatable, scalable revenue engine.
Reporting to our Founder/CEO, you’ll be a key partner driving strategy and execution across the commercial front. From high-level go-to-market planning to hands-on deal-making and account management, you will spearhead Rarebird’s growth into B2B. You’ll have one full-time seller from day one, plus strong cross-functional support (ops, marketing, product) to help you move fast. You’ll also support investor relations (updates, board materials, fundraising prep), building confidence through traction. As an extroverted closer with an owner’s mindset, you have the drive to scale an early-stage venture into a thriving business.
This role is remote-friendly (U.S.), with optional hybrid work in Buffalo or San Francisco. It will involve periodic travel for key client, investor, and industry meetings.
Key Responsibilities
* Go-to-Market Strategy: Identify and scale effective go-to-market B2B strategies for Rarebird’s Px-infused coffee products (e.g., green Px-infused coffee beans and existing branded offerings), driving rapid market adoption and revenue growth.
* Channel Development: Leverage your B2B sales expertise to explore and validate a range of sales channels and partnerships, discovering which approaches yield the strongest traction rather than adhering to a predetermined playbook.
* Experimental Approach: Establish a disciplined, data-driven framework for go-to-market experimentation – run rapid “kill” experiments (testing various tactics quickly and ending those that underperform) to uncover a high-performing, scalable GTM model.
* Investor Relations & Fundraising: Partner with the CEO and executive team on investor relations, articulating Rarebird’s commercial vision and go-to-market progress to investors and stakeholders, and playing a key role in fundraising and strategic communications.
* Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing commercial team (across sales, marketing, and business development), fostering a culture of creativity, adaptability, and accountability to effectively execute the go-to-market strategy.
Qualifications & Skills
* 10+ years of relevant experience: Demonstrated success in senior commercial roles (e.g., sales, marketing, business development), with a track record of driving revenue growth.
* Industry expertise: Experience in the coffee industry or adjacent CPG sectors (supplements, functional beverages, etc.) is highly preferred – especially if you’ve led go-to-market efforts for an innovative or emerging product category.
* Go-to-market leadership: Proven ability to run disciplined, fast-paced GTM experiments and iterate quickly to identify scalable sales models and distribution channels (e.g., retail partnerships, 3rd party roasters, etc.).
* Entrepreneurial Mindset: Strategic thinker who also embraces a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach. You’re equally comfortable defining go-to-market strategy and diving into day-to-day execution. You act like an owner with a high level of autonomy, proactiveness, and resourcefulness in problem-solving.
* Investor & Board Savvy: Experience supporting fundraising or investor relations (e.g., pitching to VCs, preparing board reports, or managing key stakeholder relationships) is a strong plus. You project an executive presence and confidence that instills trust with investors, board members, and enterprise clients alike.
* Leadership & Team Development: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams toward ambitious goals. Experience in building teams and managing people is a necessity.
What We Offer
* Compensation: Base salary range of $150k–$225k per year (depending on experience).
* Equity Package: A competitive equity grant commensurate with the impact of this role, ensuring you have significant ownership in Rarebird’s long-term success.
* NY State Tax Benefit (for NY-based employees only): As a participant in Start-Up NY, this position offers up to 10 years of NY State personal income tax exemption.
* Benefits: Full medical/dental/vision coverage, 401(k) plan, and PTO policy.
* Meaningful, Transformative Work: Lead the charge in bringing a game-changing coffee innovation to the world and have a tangible impact on how people fuel their day.
