Research Technician [OPEN CALL]

Website Resurrect Bio

Helping crops defeat disease

This is an Open Call and candidates will not necessarily receive a reply.

About us
Resurrect Bio is a VC-backed plant biotech start-up, discovering how to make crops resistant to disease using gene editing. We fix the immune system of crop species. We have a unique pipeline and platform for discovering resistance genes in crops which have been defeated by pathogens and pests. We then resurrect (restore) those resistance genes to make the crop resistant again, without introducing any new DNA to the crop.

We’re focussed on delivering for the world’s farmers a better way to protect their plants, using the crop’s own immune system instead of spraying chemicals. This will enable them to increase food production, reduce land for agriculture and help mitigate climate change.

In December 2021, Resurrect Bio was spun out of the top institute for molecular plant microbe interactions, The Sainsbury Lab, Norwich.

Since then we’ve successfully raised two investment rounds, including from SynBioVen (Synthetic Biology focussed), UKI2S and Silicon Valley/Singapore based AgFunder. We’re also supported by Innovate UK, StartLife (top agritech accelerator) and SHAKE Climate Change.

What?
This is not a specific role but an Open Call. We will keep your CV on file and send invitations if a role we believe is suitable becomes available.

When?
TBD – Open Call only.

Role & Responsibilities
To support other team members and work closely with them to carry out:

* Product R&D: using our proprietary discovery pipeline to finding how pathogens overcome the immune system of important crop plants, and discovering ways to use gene editing to improve the plant immune system

* Product testing (testing if the changes we make to key proteins in the immune system of crops will lead to resistance to disease)

* Organising lab stocks and managing consumables

* Growing and maintaining plants

* Working 35 hours a week, usually 5 days per week

Opportunities

* Exceptional training in molecular biology

* Learn a variety of cutting-edge molecular skills, organisation skills and gene expression technologies in plants

* Contribute to ground breaking discovery research which we will use to transform plant biotechnology

* Make a real world impact on the life of farmers across the world
Contribute to research papers (when possible)

* Join our team of leading academic discovery and industry scientists

* Networking via attending conferences

* Tailored personal growth opportunities

Qualifications/Experience
An undergraduate degree or Masters degree in Biology or similar

Skills

* Molecular biology techniques such as cloning (e.g. golden gate) and PCR (essential)
* Maintaining plants (non-essential)
* Agroinfiltration (non-essential)

NO EXPERIENCE OR KNOWLEDGE OF PLANT SCIENCE IS REQUIRED. A willingness to learn new things and work as a team member would be welcome. Having done a bit of personal research on plants would be beneficial at interview.

We want Resurrect Bio to be a great place to work for all kinds of people. We will carry out a hiring process with equal opportunities as the priority and have a focus on eliminating unconscious bias.
